#YoPacienteDigital Interview with Bruno Cuevas, Co-founder & CEO at MediQuo

Bruno Cuevas is the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of MediQuo, a telehealth company leader in Spain and Latam. 

How is MediQuo using telemedicine? 

MediQuo is a chat based telehealth communication platform, for both health professionals and patients. We have two apps within this platform: MediQuo for patients and MediQuo Pro for professionals, based on simplicity of usage and conveniency for both end users. We develop our platform in-house.   

What are MediQuo´s business lines?

MediQuo provides two main business lines: a 24/7 instant healthcare response, where patients can consult for free with our team of nurses or subscribe to have the immediate answer from  specialists, and on the other hand we have the SAAS platform, that any health professional can use to do telemedicine. Both of these are also surrounded by our B2C communities, that increase the activity and engagement within our apps. 

Why did you decide to support the #YoPacienteDigital project? How will this study impact your company?

Telehealth is at the core of our business, and this study aims to help push forward the needed regulations and support to help user adoption and better user experience for both patients and health professionals. We are supporting this initiative as it will benefit our society as a whole and will also help pave the way to our company as it expands. 

What is a digital patient for you?

At MediQuo, we believe the digital and physical world within healthcare should, and will, fully converge. There is no digital patient nowadays, but rather a patient that already lives in a digital world. This user already interacts digitally with all other user facing verticals (fintech, mobility, education, entertainment, etc.), but within this evolution, healthcare has been slower to transform. There is a significant need to have the capability within healthcare to give the user the option of a virtual and/or face to face care, and this gap has not yet been covered properly. We are here to change that. 

How can telemedicine and Mediquo’s services more concretely help clinics and hospitals differentiate themselves and attract new customers?

We give clinics and hospitals, and many other players within the health ecosystem (Pharma groups, insurance players, public health administrations, end users, etc.) an innovative platform to provide telehealth, out of the box. Our platform guarantees data compliance, phone number privacy, higher efficiency for the professionals and better user experience for the patients, as well as added value such as instant medical response and the access to communities. It is a 360 solution for all.

Chat or video consultation? 

Video based systems only solve one problem: the commute of the patient to the clinic. But all other factors that make the healthcare system not scalable and the ever increasing costs a huge problem, plus the “agenda based” care, remain the same.

We firmly believe in chat based asynchronous communication as being the main driver in the next S-Curve jump within telehealth innovation. Asynchronous communication means continuity of care, better user experience, lower costs and thus, continuity of data. We also provide video or audio communication, but with a chat based platform, the patient and health professional are always connected, and the patient does not need to be “activated” again once the consultation is done. 

How do you ensure data privacy of patients’ data? And how do you validate patients and healthcare professionals?

Data privacy is ensured based on complying with two main needs: adapting to the legal requirements and ensuring a secure technological solution. At MediQuo we are fully data compliant and also recurrently perform penetration tests to ensure we have the safest tech platform.

When it comes into validation of health professionals, we manually review every single one that wants to use our platform. We seek personal identification and professional certifications before allowing them to use our platform. Patients also go through a phone verification when onboarded. Within our communities, health professionals moderating each group have the possibility to ban non compliant patients.
