The use of applications is becoming increasingly common and beneficial, especially for the elderly care sector. Leveraging technology, apps can help older adults improve their overall health, stay connected with loved ones, and access various resources. BHH member Doonamis exemplifies the benefits of apps for the elderly care sector:

  • Connect and Care: One of the main advantages of using applications in the elderly care sector is the ability to connect with family, friends, and others. Through interaction and communication, the elderly can feel loved and valued, stay up to date with events and current news, and even improve their overall mental health. Additionally, caregivers can communicate with family members, ensure the best care, easily manage medical appointments, and stay updated on their status and experiences through applications.

A clear example of an app that connects people with their caregivers is Suara. The application, developed by the team at Doonamis for Android TV, from the third-sector cooperative Suara, enables the performance of activities through a video conferencing system. In this simple way, users can access sessions where they can engage in directed cognitive exercises, gymnastics, games, as well as have monitoring of the psychological state of the person being attended to.

  • Health and Wellness Tools: Apps for the elderly sector also offer various health and wellness tools. Many apps have features that allow the elderly to track their steps, monitor their mood, and record meals, medications, and appointments. Apps often also provide reminders to take medications and attend appointments.
  • Enhancing Mindfulness and Memory: As the brain ages, it is more prone to age-related deficits and atrophy. In these cases, cognitive stimulation can be helpful in slowing down the progression of deterioration. There are many apps that can help improve cognitive function, such as games, puzzles, and exercises.

As technology use continues to grow, it is increasingly clear that apps can bring significant benefits to the elderly care sector. From connecting and nurturing to providing health and wellness tools, improving attention and memory, providing independence and flexibility, and even cost and maintenance advantages, apps are a valuable and invaluable tool for the elderly care sector. By leveraging the technological advancements of apps, the elderly care sector can provide the best care and the opportunity for a fuller life.
