Today, Bioinformatics Barcelona, member of Barcelona Health Hub, held the conference “The opportunity of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence in clinical decision-making and health evaluation”, at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, in Universitat de Barcelona.

The different panel discussions have been analyzing the progress in the clinical-care field, the issues that need to be addressed from a legal, social and ethical point of view, as well as the state of the issue from the point of view of clinical research and regulation medicines and sanitary products.

As a present and future opportunity, complementary to the clinical trial, the growing availability of Big Data on health interventions and the digitization of medicine offer the possibility to expand the knowledge of medicines and sanitary products in an exponential way, as well as the possibility of enhancing precise medicine by improving the benefit-risk ratio, not only at the sample or population level, but for each patient, individually. To do this, the application of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) must be promoted, with ethical and methodological standards needed to be agreed.
