BHH Investors Day, organized by Barcelona Health Hub (BHH), in the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, held its first edition this morning. 10 startups were chosen to present their projects under the supervision of more than 130 investors and digital health experts. Thus, the aim of the event is to encourage interactions and synergies between startups and investors.

Iomed, ReHand, Smiletronix, Bitac, Neurogress, Pharmacelera, GoAyo, Mental ID, Xpeer, MedVisit and Legit, have been the main stars of the meeting, they have had a total time of 8 minutes to defend their projects – 4 minutes of pitch and 4 minutes round of questions.- “We have had a great talent and a large group of investors that shows that Barcelona is one of the capitals of innovation, where BHH is headquartered and plays a relevant role in the health sector”, says Luis Badrinas, CEO at Barcelona Health Hub.

During the morning, other activities took place to give national and international visibility to the importance of the latest technological advances in the digitization of health. Internationally renowned experts such as Guy Nohra, General Manager at Alfa Life Sciences; Marta G. Zanchi, Founder and CEO of Nina Capital; Carlos Gallardo, Managing Director at CG Health Ventures; and Frederic Llordachs, Partner at Braincats Consulting, have participated in a panel discussion where they analized the investment trends in the digital health sector.

They have emphasized that starting from 2020 the investment in digital health will shoot up because of the growing interest that hospitals and pharma companies are showing in adopting these new tools that technology offers.

On the other hand, Frederic Llordachs estimates that the volume of investments will be three times higher than in 2019. In addition, the specialists have agreed to highlight the importance of BHH for Barcelona and as Guy Nohra has assured, “having an ecosystem of startups in a city helps very positively to increase investments”. Looking ahead, Carlos Gallardo has pointed out that “the biggest challenge in this sector is for investors to be patient. Investing in digital health is very different from investing in other digital sectors, as it takes time. They are not investments with immediate results”. Finally, Marta G. Zanchi has highlighted the importance of investors getting to know in depth the clinical impact and profits of each of the startups where they invest.

The presentation of Santiago Torent, Managing Partner in Lener, was also very relevant. His presentation “How to protect your Investment in a Startup” has underlined the importance of periodic controls of the project, as well as being aware of the sector in which it is invested.

In the context of this first edition of BHH Investors Day, it has been presented, aimed at recognizing the work that these startups do every day to accelerate the implementation of innovation in the industry, the Startup Award, it has been for Iomed, a member of BHH.

BHH is consolidated as a leading association in the health sector, which currently brings together more than 160 partners. An ecosystem dedicated to the digitization of health that has recently completed its first year of life.
