The manager of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, Dr. Manel del Castillo, most influential person in digital health, according to the HRC Awards
The Health Revolution Awards have recognized the manager of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, Manel del Castillo, as the most influential person in the digital health ecosystem. A professional of recognized prestige in the field of healthcare management, Del Castillo is a specialist in Family and Community Medicine and has recently been appointed president of the committee of experts in Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya, whose objective is to reform the Catalan healthcare system. The jury highlighted his work in the private sector, where he has made a significant commitment to the digital transformation of healthcare. The award ceremony of the first edition of the digital health awards took place this afternoon at the Sant Pau modernist building, with the presence of institutional representatives and professionals from the healthcare world, investors, insurers and technology companies.
The prizes in the other four categories of the awards, which this year celebrate their first edition, highlighted Dycare's respiratory rehabilitation platform, ReHub, which was one of the first clinical validations carried out by the Digital Health Validation Center, based at the Hospital de Sant Pau. Validations allow to clinically verify that a new healthcare technology is viable, has the expected impact on patients and is safe to be implemented in a healthcare process. ReHub has received the award for the Most Successful Use Case with Hospitals by Fundación Mutual Médica and is a very useful tool for people who must perform respiratory rehabilitation, especially for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a chronic condition that affects millions of people around the world. This platform makes it possible to create ultra-personalized exercises, monitor the patient and receive a complete report of the therapy in the simplest way, through artificial intelligence (AI).
The Best Health Equity Project went to Awake, a robotic orthopedic solution that allows hemiplegics to get out of their wheelchairs and walk, independently and without medical supervision. It is a solution for people affected by a stroke devised by Robopedics, a Barcelona-based startup. These solutions have a very high price tag, but the company is working on a more affordable home alternative, which patients could also rent at a lower cost.
Global healthcare and pharmaceutical company, Sanofi, has won the Most Innovative Pharmaceutical Use Case by Gebro Pharma award. The jury recognized it for its comprehensive and ambitious approach to innovation in digital health, leading the use of AI and data science tools to transform the experience of patients and professionals, and achieve more personalized and efficient healthcare. Sanofi also fosters cross-sector partnerships to drive transformative innovations in healthcare.
The award for the Most Innovative Insurance Use Case in Digital Health by Adeslas went to the service provider startup, Senniors, which together with the insurer Zurich, works on projects aimed at the silver economy, improving the care and quality of life of the elderly and dependent people. The company offers home caregiver services with comprehensive monitoring and the help of technological tools.
HRC Awards
The Health Revolution Awards are an initiative of Barcelona Health Hub, with the support of the Fundació Privada Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, created with the aim of recognizing companies and professionals within the healthcare ecosystem, to highlight the best innovations in digital health, inspire future healthcare entrepreneurs and showcase successful collaborations in the ecosystem.
These awards are the result of the success of the two editions of the Health Revolution Congress that have already taken place.
