Unimedia Technology, Technology Partner of Milbotix in the International Launch of SmartSocks®DISCOVERY

JULY 23, 2025 BHH News

A new milestone in digital health has just been reached. After more than a decade of research, UK-based company Milbotix has officially launched SmartSocks®DISCOVERY—intelligent wearable capable of collecting real-time physiological data. The launch took place in collaboration with Unimedia Technology, a member of Barcelona Health Hub, which played a key technological role in the project’s development.

SmartSocks®DISCOVERY is designed for use in medical and clinical research, with a strong focus on individuals living with dementia, autism, brain injuries, or other conditions where comfort and device acceptance are essential for reliable data collection. Equipped with sensors to measure electrodermal activity, heart rate, skin temperature and movement, the socks collect data in real time and wirelessly transmit it to a browser-accessible control panel. The system also features internal storage and can operate even without an active connection.

Unimedia Technology was responsible for building the entire digital platform that powers SmartSocks®—from system architecture to the user interface. The solution enables researchers to visualize and analyze data easily, integrate it with their own tools, and carry out clinical studies with greater efficiency and precision.

Headquartered in Castelldefels (Barcelona), Unimedia Technology is a consultancy firm specialized in custom software architecture and development, with strong experience in delivering digital solutions for demanding sectors such as healthcare. Its multidisciplinary, results-driven team has participated in large-scale international projects, offering strategic technical support, innovation, and reliability.

The collaboration between Milbotix and Unimedia Technology was based on close communication, iterative deliveries, and hands-on testing. As Zeke Steer, CEO of Milbotix, states:

“Unimedia Technology provided clarity from the outset regarding the architecture. Throughout the project, their communication and flexibility have been exemplary. The development of SmartSocks® would not have been possible without their team.”

Unimedia Technology’s involvement in SmartSocks®DISCOVERY strengthens its position as a trusted technology partner in digital health—delivering tailored solutions that support innovation in research and care.
This initiative represents meaningful progress in the intersection of technology and healthcare, bringing more human-centred tools to improve clinical research and, ultimately, people’s quality of life.
