Dycem Joins Barcelona Health Hub!

Joining Barcelona Health Hub marks an important step for Dycem as the company continues to strengthen its presence within the healthcare sector. It creates new opportunities to stay close to innovation, collaborate with leading organisations, and better understand the evolving needs of healthcare environments.

Why Does Floor-Level Contamination Control Matter?

In critical environments, contamination can have serious consequences. It may increase the risk of healthcare-associated infections, delay patient recovery, compromise product quality, cause batch rejection, create costly downtime, and threaten regulatory compliance.

In these environments, contamination can come from many sources including personnel, foot traffic, wheeled trolleys/carts, airborne particles, and microorganisms. Often, floor-level contamination is overlooked, but shoes, trolleys, carts, and material movement can all transport unwanted contamination from one area to another if not properly controlled.

How can Dycem Help?

Dycem’s contamination control mats have a naturally tacky surface that effectively attracts, captures, and retains contaminants on contact. By leveraging Van der Waals forces, the electromagnetic interactions secure the contaminants firmly onto the mat’s surface, ensuring they remain trapped until the mat is cleaned. Dycem’s technology has been trusted for 60 years across healthcare, pharmaceutical, and life sciences facilities where cleanliness, contamination prevention, and infection control are critical.

Dycem mats:

  • Prevent up to 99.9% of foot and wheel-borne contamination
  • Reduce airborne contamination by up to 75%
  • Average lifespan of 3-5 years
  • Contain Biomaster Antimicrobial Technology (effective against MRSA, Listeria, and many more)
  • Support environmental goals by reducing plastic waste
  • Reinforce cleaner transitions between controlled areas
  • Integrate easily into cleaning and hygiene SOPs
  • ISO & GMP Compliant

Examples of where to use Dycem:

  • Entry/Exit to Cleanrooms
  • Gowning Areas
  • Entry to Laboratories
  • Aseptic Units
  • Compounding Pharmacies
  • Pathology
  • Blood Banks
  • Personnel Airlocks (PALs)
  • Material Airlocks (MALs)
  • Primary Packaging/Assembly Areas
  • CNC Warehouses

Proven Results in Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Facilities

Microbiologist, Dr. Tim Sandle conducted a study in a hospital changing area with high foot traffic. After the installation of Dycem polymeric mats, microbial counts were reduced by 80%

Velindre Hospital NHS Trust has used Dycem within its Aseptic Unit for many years. Prior to installing Dycem, adhesive sticky mats were being used, but microbial counts regularly exceeded maximum limits. Following the switch to Dycem flooring, counts dropped within specification range. The inlaid flooring design also created a seamless surface ideal for busy aseptic environments.

At Meribel Pharma Solutions, maintaining Class C and D access zones required a stronger approach to floor-level contamination control. By installing Dycem in key transition areas, the facility improved particle capture from shoes and wheels, helping support cleaner controlled environments, smoother operations, and stronger compliance standards in daily pharmaceutical production.

Protecting Critical Environments

From hospitals and pharmacies to cleanrooms and pharmaceutical production facilities, floor-level contamination prevention should never be left to chance. A proactive contamination control strategy can help protect people, products, and processes.
