Open Medical, a UK-based healthcare software company, is proud to announce its membership with Barcelona Health Hub, marking a new chapter in their mission to drive healthcare forward through digital innovation.

Open Medical specialises in transforming clinical pathways and workflows from referral to discharge, spanning various specialities and catering to projects of all sizes—from small departments to nationwide transformations. Their clinical pathway management platform is capable of supporting any specialty, scalable to any size and complexity, and designed so healthcare providers can increase their capacity for patient care rather than being slowed down by administrative burdens or outdated processes. With sustainability at its core, Open Medical ensures healthcare systems are equipped with robust, future-proof digital foundations, enabling them to evolve with ever-changing demands.

But what truly sets Open Medical apart is their unconventional journey.

Without raising external funding, the company has grown organically, expanding to over 200 healthcare sites across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East. This remarkable achievement has been driven solely by the undeniable value they deliver to healthcare organisations.

The story of Open Medical begins with Harry Lykostratis, their founder, CEO, and lead engineer. On a seemingly ordinary Saturday morning, Harry arrived at his clinic to find the whiteboard holding vital patient information for that day’s surgeries had been accidentally wiped clean. Frustrated by the inefficiencies of outdated systems—from missing real-time information to chaotic handovers—Harry resolved to create a solution that would ensure such mishaps would never happen again.

With his unique combination of medical expertise and a passion for software development, Harry designed Pathpoint eTrauma, a digital trauma management platform. Initially offered as a free tool for a few departments, the platform’s impact quickly spread, becoming indispensable across multiple hospitals and inspiring the founding of Open Medical.

Harry’s vision extended far beyond solving immediate challenges. Pathpoint eTrauma was built not only to enhance patient safety and streamline trauma care but also to address broader issues like accessibility, early intervention, and prevention. The system’s success led Open Medical to expand its portfolio, developing innovative digital solutions for specialities including dermatology, preoperative assessments, cancer care, and much more.

Today, Open Medical is a clinician-led team of digital health experts delivering award-winning, cloud-based software solutions to healthcare organisations. Guided by their mission to achieve sustainable healthcare for everyone through digital excellence, Open Medical continues to set new benchmarks for healthcare innovation.

As a member of the Barcelona Health Hub, Open Medical looks forward to collaborating with global leaders in healthcare and technology, sharing insights, and driving transformative change in healthcare delivery worldwide.
