AI, VR and mobile apps in Alzheimer's research and treatment
BHH member Doonamis states that technology is a great ally in Alzheimer's research. It shows significant advances, particularly in the use of mobile applications and innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR).
Mobile apps facilitate the monitoring of patients' daily activities and enhance their independence and autonomy. These tools allow the integration of systems connected to wearables and other possibilities that not only benefit patients but also provide valuable support to caregivers and healthcare professionals, significantly contributing to the quality of life and the management of the disease.
AI is being used promisingly for the early detection of Alzheimer's. Recently, researchers at Boston University have developed an algorithm that can analyze speech patterns to predict the onset of Alzheimer's with 80% accuracy.
VR applications are being used to provide cognitive stimulation and improve the quality of life for patients with Alzheimer's. These applications allow them to interact with virtual environments that simulate daily activities, helping to exercise memory, attention, and social skills.
These developments highlight the potential of technology to transform the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's, offering new hope for improving the lives of millions of people affected by this disease.
At Doonamis, they have always been sensitive to leading projects in the Health and eHealth sector, focusing on cognitive rehabilitation, mental health, and patient accompaniment and monitoring. Some examples of these projects are the cognitive rehabilitation website EM-Line! Memory by IDIBGI and the Casal Online App by Suara Cooperativa. In addition to the Health projects they have carried out as part of their corporate responsibility, they commit to annually allocate 0.5% of their profits to support charitable initiatives. Throughout 2023, the entire Doonamis team decided to allocate the contribution to the Pasqual Maragall Foundation. They are proud to have been able to collaborate with them and be an active part of the fight against Alzheimer's.
