Arkangel Ai joins forces with AstraZeneca and i4KIDS to mitigate the burden of pediatric flu
The burden of pediatric influenza in Spain includes a significant number of hospitalizations and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) admissions. According to the SVGE (Spain's Influenza Surveillance System), those below 15 years old have the highest incidence of influenza per 100,000 population.
Flu-Copilot is an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant developed by BHH member Arkangel Ai that provides healthcare professionals with essential information about pediatric flu. This data, for example, allows healthcare professionals to streamline appointment scheduling and thus improve vaccination rates by 20%.
Moreover, Flu-Copilot is able to analyze and respond to queries in real-time with information validated by medical professionals. Through feedback systems, it also continuously monitors the patient's evolving knowledge to enhance the responses provided. It can initiate calls to schedule appointments, integrating with existing vaccination systems to significantly reduce the time families spend on decision-making.
Flu-Copilot won the Pediatric Innovation Challenge Program and right now the initiative is a finalist at the VIII Digital Health Awards by Grupo Mediforum in Europe.
Dr. César Velasco, Director of Innovation and Digital Strategy at AstraZeneca, said "it can help improve pediatric flu vaccination by applying innovative technologies with both social and healthcare approaches." He also concluded the Pediatric Innovation Challenge Program by saying that "we aspire to improve accessibility and information related to vaccination, in order to protect the most vulnerable population against this virus."
