ToREIMC is an innovative application developed by CoREIMC in collaboration with DHH member GooApps®, combining gamification and education on infectious diseases. It addresses a key issue in Spain: the lack of a recognized medical specialty in this field. Targeted primarily at medical residents and young specialists, the app uses real clinical cases and multiple-choice questions to promote practical learning, supplemented with detailed explanations and additional resources.

The current healthcare landscape, marked by insufficient specialized training in infectious diseases, highlights the need for accessible and tailored tools. ToREIMC tackles this challenge through a gamified approach, leveraging competitive elements like leaderboards and achievements to engage users and encourage participation. This gamification model enhances knowledge retention and strengthens users’ clinical skills.

The app's development by GooApps® stood out for its agile methodology and clear communication with the CoREIMC team. Through sprints and iterative deliveries, the project met tight deadlines, achieving completion in just 3-4 months. The process was enriching, enabling both teams to turn an idea into a functional, impactful solution.

Since its launch, ToREIMC has exceeded expectations, reaching 1,300 users in just four months, including SEIMC members and other healthcare professionals. The app has become a key tool in medical training, fostering collaboration among specialists in Spain and Latin America. It has also raised awareness of the importance of infectious diseases as a field of study, supporting efforts to establish it as a recognized specialty in Spain's medical training system.

ToREIMC stands out for its practical focus, allowing users to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. For instance, clinical cases challenge participants to diagnose diseases based on symptoms and detailed analyses, reinforcing key skills like clinical decision-making and diagnostic prioritization.

The collaboration between CoREIMC and GooApps® demonstrates how technology can serve as a strategic ally in healthcare education. Gamification, remote access, and interactive dynamics are effective tools for engaging users and improving knowledge retention. Andrés Blanco, the project’s lead, emphasizes that ToREIMC's success is not only reflected in user numbers but also in its ability to create a more connected and skilled medical community.

In conclusion, ToREIMC showcases the potential of technology and gamification in medical education. Its success invites reflection on its applicability to other areas of medicine while reinforcing the need for a recognized infectious diseases specialty in Spain, aligned with European standards. This project is a prime example of how strategic partnerships can transform healthcare education and meet the demands of new generations of professionals.
