A peer-reviewed study titled Improving Emotion Regulation, Internalizing Symptoms and Cognitive Functions in Adolescents at Risk of Executive Dysfunction—A Controlled Pilot VR Study in Catalunya found that BHH & MHH member Virtuleap's Enhance VR cognitive therapy tool improves emotional regulation in youth.

The study was conducted by researchers from the BrainXR Lab, Department of Psychology, Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, located in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Spain, in collaboration with the Brain, Cognition, and Behavior Research Group at Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa-Hospital Universitari in Terrassa, Spain.

Key findings:

  • Cognitive Improvements: Participants using Enhance VR demonstrated significant enhancements in executive functions, including working memory and cognitive flexibility.
  • Emotional Regulation: The study found notable improvements in participants’ ability to manage and regulate emotions, leading to reduced internalizing symptoms such as anxiety and depression.

These results suggest that VR-based cognitive training programs like Enhance VR can be effective tools for supporting adolescents at risk of executive dysfunction.
