BHH member Sense4Care is collaborating with BHH member Consorci Sanitari Alt Penedès-Garraf, which has successfully obtained substantial funding for the MoMoPa-AM project. This project is spearheaded by Dr. Alejandro Rodríguez-Molinero and Dr. Carlos Pérez López and represents a significant advancement in our ongoing research efforts.

Funding and Project Scope

The MoMoPa-AM project has received nearly 500,000 euros in funding, highlighting the strong support for this groundbreaking work. The project is an exemplar of combining rigorous scientific research with a keen entrepreneurial focus, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to advancing healthcare technology. This collaboration brings together neurology experts from across the country, emphasizing the national scope and importance of this initiative.

Technological Innovations

At the heart of MoMoPa-AM, different cutting-edge sensor technologies will be included, such as EMG, accelerometers, gyroscopes, PPG, among others. These sensors will be used to collect detailed and objective mobility data from 100 patients, each monitored for a continuous 6-hour period. The primary technological goal is to develop sophisticated algorithms capable of autonomously detecting motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, even when patients are immobile. The main aims are:

  1. Enhanced Symptom Identification: by utilizing advanced sensor technology, the project aims to improve the accuracy and reliability of symptom identification in absence of movement. This will enable more precise and personalized treatment interventions for Parkinson’s patients.
  2. Improving Dyskinesia Algorithm: a key component of the project is refining the algorithm for identifying dyskinesia, a common side effect of Parkinson’s treatment. The goal is to not only detect the presence of dyskinesia but also to quantify its severity, providing clinicians with a valuable tool for managing this challenging symptom.

Impact on Parkinson’s Care

The successful implementation of MoMoPa-AM is expected to drive the development of an innovative monitoring solution that will address a critical gap in current Parkinson’s care. By providing continuous and objective data on patient mobility, this project will enable healthcare providers to tailor treatments more effectively, improving the quality of life for those living with Parkinson’s disease. The outcomes of MoMoPa-AM will contribute to a broader understanding of Parkinson’s disease progression and treatment efficacy. This will not only benefit the current cohort of patients but also pave the way for future advancements in the field. The integration of advanced sensor technology with robust data analysis represents a forward-thinking approach to chronic disease management, positioning MoMoPa-AM at the forefront of medical innovation.
