JUNE 18, 2025 BHH News

Mutua Universal, a mutual insurance company collaborating with the Social Security system, has joined the Barcelona & Madrid Health Hub, an international benchmark in digital health, with the aim of establishing synergies to promote research and innovation in the field of digital health and to validate new solutions for the healthcare ecosystem.

"Collaborating with Mutua Universal allows us to move forward toward a real, applied digital health model that serves people. Their hybrid healthcare model, use of artificial intelligence and telemedicine, along with their comprehensive focus on prevention and well-being, enable the effective transfer of innovative technology into the healthcare sector. This collaboration opens new opportunities to validate digital solutions in real-world contexts, accelerating the transformation of the healthcare system with tangible impact on patients, professionals, and companies," said Luis Badrinas, Vice President of Barcelona & Madrid Health Hub.

The non-profit association Barcelona & Madrid Health Hub, which brings together startups, public and private healthcare institutions, universities, and other entities, fosters interaction and drives innovation in health to accelerate the digital transformation of the healthcare sector.

"For Mutua Universal, it is a great satisfaction to stand alongside one of the world’s largest digital health innovation centers. By joining, we help promote innovation in the digital health field by contributing all the talent and knowledge from our innovative ecosystem focused on people’s health," stated Juan Güell, Managing Director of Mutua Universal.

A people-centered, agile, and inclusive innovation ecosystem

Mutua Universal's innovative ecosystem offers a wide range of remote services applied to both medical and administrative management, which reinforce and complement in-person care.

A hybrid and innovative care model

The organization's hybrid healthcare model ensures universal and equitable access to specialized and hospital care by combining in-person services at 125 centers, two hospital control areas, and two inter-mutual hospitals, with advanced remote digital services. In this area, Mutua Universal provides its covered population with the benefits of:

  • Online Clinic, its proprietary telemedicine solution with over two decades of experience
  • Telerehabilitation, as a complementary tool to in-person physiotherapy treatments
  • eConsultation for quick medical inquiries
  • Virtual reality applied to psychological therapies
  • Automated patient guidance systems for medical, nursing, and physiotherapy appointments
  • And other innovations.

Additionally, the mutual's medical staff is supported by AI-based technological solutions that detect patterns and trends, allowing for the design of predictive models that support personalized and effective care.

Innovation in administrative management

In the administrative field, Mutua Universal's innovative digital transformation process allows patients, companies, consultants, providers, and employees to perform procedures, manage services, and make inquiries quickly and efficiently online through their Private Areas.

Hyperautomation using software robots, advanced use of artificial intelligence, and a wide range of digital solutions form the core pillars of the organization's digital ecosystem. This is further enhanced by a fast digital benefits processing system and an extensive network of highly qualified professionals, ensuring a swift, accurate, personalized, and high-quality response in all areas.
